Found Pet Checklist

_________If there is no identification tags consider taking the animal to a veterinarian or shelter that has a microchip-scanning device to check for a microchip. Look for tattoos.

_________Ask people in the neighborhood if they know who owns the animal.

_________Post “Found Pet” posters in the area.  Always leave off some identifying information about the pet.

_________Contact shelters, humane societies, veterinarians and breed rescues. Report the animal to these organizations. They need the information on file in case the owners call there looking for their pet.

_________Place a “found pet” ad in your local paper. When placing the ad omit a pertinent piece of information about the pet. This will help you to be sure you find the owner. You may want to ask responders of the ad the name and phone number of their veterinarian. Call the vet and verify the information before turning the pet over to the caller.  Found ads are FREE in the Winston-Salem Journal

_________Check the “Lost Pet” ads daily.

_________Look for posters in the area that may be posted for the pet.

An option is to turn the animal over to a shelter or humane society. His owner may be found or he may be placed for adoption.

A lost pet is depending on you!
Do for this animal what you would want someone to do for your beloved pet!
